  GREYSTONE KUNEKUNES

  A New Venture for Greystone


  Kunekunes come to Orotere

Between 1987 and 1996 we bred Pedigree Nubian and Nubian Cross Dairy Goats, using the stud prefix Greystone - after the many grey volcanic rocks on our land.

We put in sheds and a great system of pens and yards to accommodate our growing herd, and we consistently bred to improve our bloodlines.

But without realising it, we had bought in a number of goats infected with Johnes disease, which brought all our plans to an abrupt end. It was a harsh blow.

  The arrival of Boris

In November 2006 quite by chance we acquired a very cool, laid-back Kunekune boar by the name of Boris. That's him above.

Boris has transformed our sadly deserted breeding sheds and pens by captivating our hearts and inspiring us to find him a mate - Natasha - who, as it happens, comes with a ready-made family.

Two of her piglets have gone to new homes with other breeders, which leaves a male and a female out of Natasha's own litter.    So we brought in 2 young females - Honey and Nutmeg - from a different bloodline.

All four piglets are now weaned from their mothers and living happily together - until feeding-time, that is!
